There are many reasons to convert to an electric car, one is that electric motors are more efficient than gas engines, which are around 25% (or less) efficient, while electric motors are around 90% efficient. The biggest cause of this difference in efficiency is heat, unlike an electric motor, a gasoline engine produces a lot of heat, which means that a large part of the energy extracted from gasoline is lost to all that heat.
